African American Jewish Coalition We are more similar than different
Prior AAJC Events
NOVEMBER “Giving Thanks”The Coalition distributed throughout our community thousands of pamphlets entitled “Giving Thanks”. They are a compilation of famous quotations by different people who describe their visions of the greatness of The United States. “Giving Thanks” is designed to be read at the Thanksgiving table, when we stop to reflect upon our blessings. The AAJC encourages replications of this piece for all at the dining room table with family, friends and others.
DECEMBER Multicultural Holiday CelebrationThis 5:15 program welcomed children from all over Essex and Union Counties to celebrate and learn about Hajj (since Ramadan was in September this year), Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas. Ten-minute performances highlighted important features and songs of these holidays. Kosher hotdogs, fruit and soda were served. Afterward, dreidel games were played and chocolate coins were given to the children.
JANUARY Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial ProgramThis diverse program began at 7:00pm, and drew hundreds of adults and children from all over Essex and Union Counties. There was a prominent keynote speaker, supported by other speakers, a chior, tean readers and others. We honor Dr. King as an exemplary posthumous icon of peoples fights for freedom.
